✨ A Dose of Inspiration
“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.”
— Annie Dillard

This resonates deeply with what reflection invites us to see. If we’re not careful, our days can drift in directions we never intended. Meaning and purpose are built through the daily habits, choices, and tiny adjustments that shape who we’re becoming.

🤓 A Dose of Learning
We’re all on a journey of building a meaningful life which, in turn, involves the pursuit of happiness. This time of year is a natural moment to take inventory and consider what might be next along our path. And as leaders, we do this for ourselves and also so we can be our best for those we serve.
One of my favorite takeaways, which I’ve used for several years now, is Neil Pasricha’s idea of a Dashboard Reflection. It is simple, human, and incredibly grounding. Instead of reviewing a long list of goals, he regularly looks at four areas of life (he does this monthly, but it can also be a powerful yearly reflection) and asks a few guiding questions.
The power of this practice is that it allows small adjustments before we drift too far off course and wonder how we got here.
When I first heard this, I grabbed a pen and sketched my own version. Nothing fancy, just a circle and four quadrants. I wanted something I could return to each month without needing a worksheet or template.
Here’s the quick sketch I made while listening (please feel free to copy this or create your own):

Each quadrant invites reflection on a different part of life:
- WHAT I’m doing
- Strong Core (outcomes, work, contribution)
- Fastest Learning (growing, stretching, developing)
- HOW I’m showing up
- Best Family and Friends (nurturing the most important relationships)
- Best Self (energy, care, presence with faith and core values)
Then I simply use a stoplight color in each area:
🟢 going well
🟡 close, refine
🔴 needs attention
The goal isn’t perfection… the goal is awareness and small adjustments.

🚦 A Dose of Reflection
Sometime this month, take 10 quiet minutes to reflect using these prompts:
🤔 How did I perform on my work outcomes and contribution?
🤔 How did I grow?
🤔 How did I nurture my most important relationships?
🤔 How did I take care of myself both physically and spiritually?
Then give yourself a stoplight color in each quadrant.
Finally, choose one small adjustment for the area that needs the most attention. Not all four, just one.
This is a gentle practice that can bring immediate clarity and will also set you up beautifully for the new year.
🌀 Ripple Effect Invitation: If this reflection feels meaningful to you, consider sharing it with your team.
And remember… our influence is not limited to the walls of our organization. Great leaders help people grow professionally, yes, but also personally.
When people become better humans because of the culture we create… that’s leadership worth celebrating. #ohyeah
You got this. Let’s lead with belief.
