A Dose of Inspiration
“Authentic leadership is about leading from the core of who we are to inspire each of us to our best contribution toward a shared mission.”
— Henna Inam

At the heart of leadership is clarity – clarity of self, values, and purpose. Authenticity means clarifying who we are on the inside and aligning that with how we show up on the outside. When we lead from our core, we create space for others to do the same and invite meaningful contribution toward a shared mission.

🤓 A Dose of Learning
This week, I tuned into a conversation with Margaret Andrews on the Coaching For Leaders podcast, Six Questions Every Leader Should Ask Themselves.
Her research echoes what Daniel Goleman has shown: nearly 90% of leadership effectiveness comes from emotional intelligence rather than technical skill. In other words, the best leaders aren’t just smart… they’re self-aware and people smart.
Self-awareness is a lifelong journey. Through intentional and consistent reflection, leaders make one of the most powerful investments in their growth and impact.
Here are the six questions:
- Who, and whose thinking, has shaped you as an individual?
- What situations and events have helped shape your perspective?
- What does success (professional and personal) look like for you?
- What are your core values, and how have these values changed throughout your life?
- To what extent are you aware of—and allow yourself to feel—your emotions?
- What feedback have you received over the years about how your actions and behaviors impact others?
Each question is a mirror: it helps us see ourselves more clearly so we can lead with purpose. At the same time, it is a window: it helps us understand those in our circle of influence and impact them in a grounded, amplifying way.

Margaret and Dave identified this as the most critical of the six questions: What are your core values?
This is where the work gets practical. If you’ve never named your personal core values, or if it’s been a while, now is the time. Your values are your compass. They guide your choices, stabilize you in the midst of all life and leadership brings, fuel your courage, and shape how you show up as a leader.
I’ve written a simple guide to help you on this impactful journey: 5 Steps to Getting Clear on Your Personal Core Values
🏔️ This week’s challenge: Clarify your top 3–5 core values and share them… with your team, a trusted colleague, or even publicly. When your values are visible, they become a source of alignment and accountability.
You got this. Let’s lead with belief.
